Mr.Hogg- Alberta Education 

Alberta education curriculum program of studies- the law states each school is to inform families of studentsprogress & such. We are to inform or educated in things happening in Alberta. 

Report cards with a level 4 means a student is at grade level. 

Reporting to parents is to tell them what students are learning and how they are learning & understanding concepts. 

Gr.1 is doing outcome based reporting this year. Outcome based reporting is a monthly report system that allows the teacher to record where that student is for specific tasks learned. 

* Do parents like the outcome based reporting? 

* Changes by law we can't give a class average K-12 

* Parents always want to know where their children are so this reporting helps give a monthly break down.

Mr. Hogg- Principal Training

Budget:

• IMR- Building fund money will be going to a LED panel that will be outside our school. It will be a source of communication & if we ever go into a lockdown it will provide information for parents. 
• Lockdown Kits
• $7,000 will go to a pilot technology frame work system for monitors, apple tv’s and smart boards. This will be for the class rooms & to stay up on technology in the classroom. There is training that goes into these things so they are utilized properly. 
• $4,000 for our paper budget, we send 1.5 million papers through our copy machines in a year.

Karen Salmon: Healthy Snack Fridge 

• We need a way to promote donations / parent donations
• Snacks are costing about $0.33
• Skip the dip? Kids are trying to sell them & spilling them all over the place
• Petty cash system from Parent Council 

Run a petty cash system from council for the healthy snack fridge

Natalie- I propose that there will be a petty cash system used from parent council to run the healthy snack fridge & with the max amount of $700 out.

Majority Vote- All in favor 

• Parent Council will keep $500 in the account at all times 
• We can have a carryover next year – J’Ana will be in charge of the petty cash
• Donations will be cleared from West Winds for a tax refund

Curriculum Redesign Session

Curriculum Redesign Session here in town (as pertaining to the redesigning of the provincial curriculum).  This will be an information session and can provide information on the why and what of the curriculum redesign as well as  some help in doing the survey.  The session will be Wednesday, November 2nd, at 7pm - 8pm, at the RHS, room 100 (computer lab).

Rachael: Thank you to all who have helped volunteer & fill spots when needed. We really appreciate the help with different activities.

Connie: Divisional School Council Meeting

·        Round table reports with other schools

·        Activities done at different schools & RES ; Back to school night, meet the teacher night , Christmas program & selling $1 raffle tickets, science fair, 1^st day of school breakfast

·        There is a strong focus on the First Nations ; SLA’s Gr. 3

·        Divisional Goals ; Literacy Blankets where given to all Gr. 1 students as well as a book.

The Division as a whole wants to have every student reading at their grade level & promote reading.

·         Communications to parents is very important.

·         Parent Council is there to provide administration & staff with support. We can offer suggestions & we are here to plan/follow through with activities

·         There is a Meeting Monday October 17, 2016 @ 7pm at the Public Library  on the

West Side of Lethbridge
